What is Truth?

“What is truth?” is a good question to ask. People have spent eons seeking the “Truth”; scientific truths, religious truths, political truths and the truth told to us by our family and friends. In the Modern World going onto the Internet to seek the truth of news items and statements is generally a fool’s errand. In our seeking for a confirmation of a truth we tend to trust the content of video and audio recordings. But with AI (Artificial Intelligence), anyone’s face or voice can be recreated with pinpoint accuracy. The product is a  “deepfake”, an impersonation that can be used for memes (A meme is a concept or behavior that spreads from person to person. Examples of memes include beliefs, fashions, stories, and phrases), misinformation, or porn. The effect of cyberbullying (Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content, images and text, about someone else), is disastrous, leading to suicides and broken lives. How to tell what is fake news and and what is true news?

A vital part of one’s own “Survival Kit” is to have the ability to get to the truth, or as near as possible for oneself, based on one’s own evaluation from one’s own viewpoint. As LRH says…

“Most people get so confused by all the lies around, they come to believe anything they’re told and that’s the reason the suppressive lies.  But with the Data Series, one can spot bad data so easily it is itself a sort of relief to know it.

“And as you burrow your way down through the layers of lies, you come to truth.  And truth blows the lies away.” LRH, LRH ED 348 Int, “Ron’s Journal 37”, 13 March 1983

Evaluation of data is a key tool and a good tool to go by is the CODE of HONOR, especially the emphasized clauses below, when seeking out the truth for oneself.

A Basic Course in Scientology – Part 6

    1. Never desert a comrade in need, in danger or in trouble.
    2. Never withdraw allegiance once granted.
    3. Never desert a group to which you owe your support.
    4. Never disparage yourself or minimize your strength or power.
    5. Never need praise, approval or sympathy.
    6. Never compromise with your own reality.
    7. Never permit your affinity to be alloyed.
    8. Do not give or receive communication unless you yourself desire it.
    9. Your self-determinism and your honour are more important than your immediate life.
    10. Your integrity to yourself is more important than your body.
    11. Never regret yesterday. Life is in you today, and you make your tomorrow.
    12. Never fear to hurt another in a just cause.
    13. Don’t desire to be liked or admired.
    14. Be your own adviser, keep your own counsel and select your own decisions.
    15. Be true to your own goals.

“The test of any ‘truth’ is whether it is true for you.  If, when one has gotten the body of data, cleared up any words in it that one does not fully understand and looked over the scene, it still doesn’t seem true, then it isn’t true so far as you are concerned.  Reject it.” LRH, “The Way to Happiness [1981], page 206

The worse off a person is in terms of aberration and case the more difficult it is to understand and view a “truth”.

TRUTH, 1. truth is the exact consideration. Truth is the exact time, place, form and event. (PXL, p. 183) 2. that which works. And that which works most broadly to that which it is applied. (PDC 19) 3. by definition – is what is. (Class VIII, No. 4)

When a person has engrams, these tend to deflect what would be his normal ability to perceive truth and bring about an aberrated view of situations which then would cause an aberrated reaction to them. Aberration is opposed to sanity, which would be its opposite. (LRH Def. Notes)

As Scientologists it is important that we don’t just follow and “do what Ron says” because he said it is true. In LRH’s own words …

“What we seek is your intelligent participation and what we frown on is your hypnotic never-inspection.  And if you don’t inspect this stuff, what’s it doing?  It’s just going in as a lock on what you already have of it. See, it’s an exploration of you as well as anything else and if you just say, ‘Well, that’s the way it is because Ron says it is,’ why… It’s either true or it isn’t, you see?  And if it isn’t true for you, it isn’t true….” LRH, “Anatomy of Needles – Question and Answer Period”, 24 July 1958, from “The First Postulate” tape series, transcripts part 2, pages 75-77.

The importance of Auditing and Training, in Scientology correctly delivered as LRH intended cannot be overstated. As a Being moves along with his auditing and training his ability to observe, evaluate new data, seek out the truth and understand increases enormously.
